IFC Checker

Why was my file refused or not read?

Check takes IFC files in the STEP format and IDS 1.0 files. Any other file is not added, and the notice says why. An IFC file that cannot be read in full is reported by File integrity with the reason, and an IDS 1.0 file that fails IFC Checker's IDS checks is not added, with its first problem named.

What to do when a file is refused

  1. Read the notice on Check: it names the file and why it was not added.
  2. For an IFC file, export it again from the authoring tool as IFC, and add it again. For a very large model whose check does not finish, export a smaller part of it.
  3. For an IDS that is not IDS 1.0, ask for an IDS 1.0 file, or write the requirements again in the IDS editor.
  4. For an IDS 1.0 file that fails the IDS checks, choose Open in IDS editor and fix the problems it lists.
  5. For a model read only in part, read the Model health tab under Extended data on Results: it says where the file could not be read.

Is it an IFC or IDS file?

Check takes .ifc and .ids files. Any other file is not added, and the notice says so after its name. A ZIP archive, a saved web page or an ifcXML file is not IFC in the STEP format: export the model from the authoring tool as IFC again.

Is the model very large, or one too many?

A check of a model over 500 MB may run out of memory. Such a model is still added, with a warning that gives its size, one line for each such model. If its check does not finish, export a smaller part of the model from the authoring tool, for example one building, one storey or one discipline, and check the parts, up to five in one check.

A check takes up to five models. When more are added, the first five are kept and the notice names each of the others as not added. A model added again under a file name already listed takes the place of that one and does not count again.

Why does File integrity fail?

File integrity reads every record of the file. Where it cannot, Results says why in one sentence, with what to do and where in the file: for example an empty file, a file that was cut off, or a file without its DATA section. A model read only in part withholds the Model Correctness Index. How to read the report.

Why was my IDS refused?

An .ids file that is not an IDS 1.0 file is not added: for example an IDS of another version, a file made by the old IFC Checker editor, or a file that is not an IDS at all. The notice says why after its name and offers Choose files, since the IDS editor cannot open such a file either. Ask for the requirements as an IDS 1.0 file, or write them again in the IDS editor.

An IDS 1.0 file that fails IFC Checker's IDS checks is not added either. Its notice names the first problem and offers Open in IDS editor, where the editor lists every problem to fix.
