IFC Checker

How do I see how my rules do on a model?

Load a model in the IDS editor and the table shows how many elements pass and fail each rule, and the counts follow your changes. A line under the draft also says which classes of the model only general rules reach, with a button to add a rule for each.

See live counts, step by step

  1. Click the field at the top and choose IFC model, or drop an IFC model anywhere on the page.
  2. Read the On model column. It shows how many elements pass and fail each rule. A failure is marked in its own cell. Choose it to see the values that failed. A rule that applies to no element in the model says so.
  3. Change a rule. The counts follow your change.
  4. For a large model, or one whose last count was slow, the counts are on request. Choose Update counts beside the model in the line under the field after your changes.
  5. Look at the strip under the draft line. It says how many elements of the model have a rule for their class and how many only general rules, and opens a list of the classes (Show the classes).
  6. For a class on the list, choose Add rule to start a rule for it, Not allowed to write a rule that does not allow it, or Not needed to leave it to other checks for now.

Why the strip matters

An element a general rule reaches still passes or fails, but the test was not written for its class, so the draft is thin there. Elements no rule reaches are untested on Results (untested elements). Not needed hides a class for this visit and writes nothing into the IDS.

The model is optional

A model only fills the lists and the counts. You can write an IDS without one. A model loaded on an empty sheet also drafts the rules most elements carry, and you tighten them.
