# What is on the main screen?

The main screen is the Check page. It has the top bar with Check, IDS editor and Workflows, a large drop area marked with the IFC Checker mark where you add your models, the button to try the sample model, and an explanation of what IFC Checker does further down. Once a model is in, the tests appear and you can run the check.

## A walk through the page

1. Open ifcchecker.com. On your first visits, a short notice says it is an early version. Choose **Start checking** to close it.
2. Look at the top bar. **Check** is this page. **IDS editor** opens the editor where you write a test. **Workflows** opens this help in the same tab. To keep your work on this page, open it in a new tab with Ctrl click (Cmd click on a Mac). If a check is running, or an IDS is not downloaded, or you have marks, approvals or BCF topic changes, the browser asks before you leave.
3. Look at the large mark in the middle. This is the drop area. Drop your IFC models on it, or anywhere on the page, or click the mark to choose them. The words under it say what to drop: IFC and a test, or IFC and an IDS.
4. No model to hand? Choose **Try the sample model**. It adds a sample model with IFC Checker sample checks, ready to run.
5. Scroll down. Under the drop area the page explains what a check gives you: a result you read in tables first and in 3D second, the tests you can start from, the IDS editor, the BCF issues, and a one-file workflow for a client and the team. It ends with **Check** and the IDS editor again.
6. Choose the small i at the bottom right. A card shows the keys and moves of the page you are on, and the button opens it again at any time. The keys are written for Windows: on a Mac use Cmd for Ctrl and Option for Alt.
7. At the foot of every page are About us, Privacy and Terms.

## What happens after you add a model

The page changes as you go. With a model added, the drop area shrinks to a small mark above a list of **Files**, and the **Tests** section opens under it: the tests you added yourself, listed under **Yours**, and the predefined tests, listed under **Public**. **Model health** is a tick above the tests. When a test is picked, or Model health is ticked, a line says what **Run checker** will do, and the button turns on.

The pages that follow are **Results**, which opens when you run the check, and the IDS editor. Results is explained part by part in [the Results page](https://ifcchecker.com/help/read-the-results/).

## Where your work stays

Your models, your test and your marks last until you reload or close the page. Then you start again, but a model you checked before shows its earlier results at once ([details](https://ifcchecker.com/help/checked-before/)). To keep a result, [save it and share a link](https://ifcchecker.com/help/save-and-share/), or [download the files](https://ifcchecker.com/help/export-results/).
